I believe that the industry needs to be shaken up with this Manhunt 2 controversy. GTA III came out and set new standards in gameplay and voice acting, showing gamers and developers everywhere that they recognized a large portion or gamers had grown up. Rockstar, as a developer, has always seemed to push maturity in their games, but the mature themes are always essential to the stories that they were telling, stories that, in my opinion, were always at the forefront of gaming. I'm sure the situation is the same for Manhunt 2. The violence was justified because the game called for it. There were scenes in the game that made me uncomfortable, but overall I thought the game was well done and did a good job of creating an atmosphere. The first Manhunt was kind of fun, although I will admit that it was a bit graphic to me. It wasn't fairly high up on my list, but I was slightly interested in playing it. Manhunt 2 is a game that I was anticipating.
This week Cheat Code Central is addressing the controversy surrounding Manhunt 2 and discussing what this will inevitably mean for the gaming industry. However, Manhunt 2 violence has been compared to that of an R-rated movie, creating a huge discrepancy in the judging between the two genres. The game's violence isn't in dispute, as the first Manhunt was one of the goriest and most disturbing games ever released. Rockstar, the developers of Manhunt 2 as well as the ultra-popular Grand Theft Auto series, have come out and supported their game, going as far as to call it a work of art. The game has been banned in numerous overseas countries and has received the AO rating, which bars it from release on any console. However, despite that it is still grisly and dark and Manhunt fans are sure to love it regardless.JIf you're a hardcore gamer, chances are you've heard about the storm of controversy swarming around Manhunt 2. Extremely violent scenes are blurred out which makes it next to impossible to figure out what is going on. Overall Manhunt 2 for the Wii is slightly more toned down than the first version, particularly on the Wii console. You never know where your enemies are and that adds to the tension of the game. You will also notice that at some points you will be on the edge of your seat with anxiety as you try to stop yourself from being killed. This isn't overly noticeable however and the game is still extremely playable despite it. The only real problem you will notice with the game is that it does tend to have slight pauses throughout when the Wii needs to access the disc. The game certainly has an extremely dark feel to it and comes with an "M" warning. The graphics are also stunningly realistic with each new place that you discover looking more and more grisly as you go along.
The game is packed full of gore, sex and bad language. He remembers an experiment that he was a part of and the game follows Danny as he aims to discover the truth and lets nothing get in his way. The story behind the game is that an asylum inmate escapes with a companion and he starts to have flashbacks regarding how he got where he is. So the fact that it has still been banned in some places shows that it is still quite graphic and grisly to play. However, whilst it has been toned down a little, that does not mean to say that the game is a walk in the park.! In America, some stores have still banned the game even though according to the ratings it is perfectly acceptable to be sold. This means that in the Nintendo Wii version especially, you cannot see the blood as much as you could in the original version of the game. However, if it was to be passed for release then it was essential for the developers to make Manhunt 2 for the Nintendo Wii a little less gory. This will no doubt prove to be frustrating for many people who love nothing more than to see the gore and suffering that their enemies go through. Now you will no longer see every detail of what is happening to your enemies. So to do this, the killing scenes have been toned down. In order to get the game accepted, they needed to ensure that it could not be classed as too violent and over the top.
